III Year Lettorato Inglese – Full Exam (April 2, 2019) -- RESULTS & ORAL EXAM APPOINTMENTS

As you know, in this exam session, students with surnames in the range

The oral exams will be on Thursday, May 2, starting at 11:20am in stanza 203 (Sala di anglistica e francesistica), sede Marco Polo. 

Make-up oral exam session on May 7, or by special appointment.
If you pass the written exam but are unable to be present for the oral on the 2^nd, you may do it instead on Tuesday, May 7, in the morning. If you prefer to do the oral on the 7th instead of the 2nd, please write me an email to request this change: nathanial.peterson-more@uniroma1.it

Dear students,

As regards the reading book for the oral exam, I see that the Penguin Edition, translated by Joachim Neugroschel, is difficult to get in Italy. So we can use another edition.

I have identified three others that are readily available, all of which are fine to use.

The first is the classic translation by Hilda Rosner, which I recommend. There are several copies available on Amazon.it. I have ordered a copy of this version for myself, as I assume it is the one most of you will use:

II Year Lettorato Inglese -- Group 2E (Peterson-More) -- WRITING ASSIGNMENT 

Dear students,

Here is a more detailed explanation of the writing assignment to complete before our lesson on Tuesday, April 16.

(1) Work with a partner and write your composition together. You will turn in to me only one paper for every pair of two students. (Make sure both of your names are complete and legible).

(2) The task is to write about technologies that have been invented (such as smartphones) AND/OR technological developments which have become more widespread in YOUR own lifetime - i.e. since YOU were born (such as the internet; or satellite television; or advancements in healthcare; and many other topics).

(3) How have these technologies and technological developments changed people's lives throughout the world in the last two decades?

(4) Discuss at least two advantages and two disadvantages of whatever technologies or technological developments you have chosen.

(5) In the writing section of English File Upper Intermediate there is an an example of an advantages & disadvantages composition (called "for and against").

(6) The minimum number of words is 200 (but you will probably write more than that). The maximum is one page, whether written by hand or typed.

The documentary I mentioned in class yesterday about state-sponsored doping Russia is called Icarus. It is available on Netflix.
