III Year Lettorato Inglese

Dear students,

For your reference I am re-posting the homework assignments for our next lesson on Tuesday, April 19:

Grammar Scan, pp. 86-90, units 11 & 12
Vince, p. 93 exercise 3
Pudney, p. 104, translate the third paragraph only (lines 13-21) of exercise 1.
Goddard, write an analysis of the advertisement on p. 44.

In case you are unable to read the text in the photocopies, I have copied and pasted it here. What follows is the full text of the advertisement:

      If one was missing
            we'd shriek.

Most people recoil at the sight of a colony
of marine worms.
Here at BP we hold the 'lowest forms of life'
in somewhat higher regard.
Ever since our ecologists helped to unearth
the fact that these friendless creatures are
extremely sensitive. Particularly to any sudden
chemical changes in sea water, their natural
environment.
            Apparently even miniscule quantities of
pollutants can decimate entire worm colonies.
Of course we can't account for every single
worm in the vicinity of our oil platforms.
But we can monitor their populations
thereby detecting the first signs of contamination
in time to prevent damage to the environment.
A prime example of the early bird catching
the worm.
Protecting the environment is one of the
things BP is doing today for all our tomorrows.

                        BP
For all our tomorrows.

TO ALL STUDENTS:

Remember to VOTE in the referendum on Sunday. This is a very important issue, and as adult citizens, it is your civic duty to vote. Personally I think you should vote YES.

This referendum affects the future of the Italian coastline, and the beaches you love.

It also sends a message to the government about the direction you, as citizens, want to take with regard to Italy's energy policies less reliance on fossil fuels and more use of sustainable energy sources, such as solar power, for example.

Here is an informative article about the referendum:

http://espresso.repubblica.it/attualita/2016/03/24/news/referendum-trivelle-10-cose-da-sapere-per-votare-informati-1.255743

What follows is the first of the ten points in the article:
