III Year Lettorato Inglese -- Peterson-More 2017-2018

Homework to complete for Monday, October 30, 2017

PREPARE WRITTEN ANSWERS TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

(1) First of all, choose two or more specific lines, phrases, or images from Neil Young’s song “Keep on Rockin’ in the Free World” and discuss their significance in the song. Secondly, please explain how you interpret the title of the song.

(2) Think about the three songs we heard in class on Wednesday and explain which one of the three you like best and why.

(3) Listen to the four songs below and write your interpretation of any two of them. I encourage you to look up the lyrics to each song before writing your responses. Come up
with YOUR OWN INTERPRETATION based on the lyrics and your personal reaction to the song, and then write it down.

(a) “Cookie Jar” by Jack Johnson

III Year Lettorato inglese -- corso di Peterson-More 2017-2018

Dear students,

I have just received an email from Feltrinelli International about the availability of Cutting Edge (see below the contents of the message). Given these circumstances I would suggest you get the book by other means.

Gentile Prof. Peterson
Siamo spiacenti
a sua disposizione per qualsiasi chiarimento
cordiali salutI,
La Feltrinelli

III Year Lettorato Inglese -- corso di Peterson-More 2017-2018

Dear students, here are several links to additional articles about the "Me Too" movement. Originally I was going to add only the first two articles listed below. Those are the only two that you MUST READ. I have included the others as optional reading. The third article is longer than the others, but is highly recommended. It explains that the "Me Too" movement actually started over 10 years ago and gives a detailed account of its origins.

For homework you must read at least the first two articles provided here, and then write a short commentary in which you compare and contrast 2 or 3 of the articles you have read about the "Me Too" movement (including the article we read together in class this past Wednesday).

(1) The Washington Post
Me Too: Alyssa Milano elevates Harvey Weinstein conversation

(2) NPR
In The Wake Of Harvey Weinstein Scandal, Women Say #MeToo

(3) The Washington Post
The woman behind ‘Me Too’ knew the power of the phrase when she created it — 10 years ago

(4) MamaMia
Why Hollywood’s most explosive scandal took 30 years to surface.

(5) The Cut
Why the Harvey Weinstein Sexual-Harassment Allegations Didn’t Come Out Until Now
