Please watch at least the following two segments of the film, and write
brief answers to the questions below (of course, I encourage you to watch the entire film if you are interested):

(1) What is a documentary film? How would you define the
term “documentary film” to someone who does not know the meaning (such as a
child, for example)?
(2) Why do you think the film is called Bowling for
Columbine? What connection(s) between bowling and guns is or are suggested?
(3) As mentioned in class last week, the director of the
film, Michael Moore, uses humor and irony throughout the film. Describe
one or two examples of humor and/or irony in the sections you have watched.
(4) Another element of the film is the issue of race in the
United States. What subtexts or messages
about race and/or racism do you notice? Please describe.
(5) How are the police, and representatives of the government, as well as other authority figures depicted in the film?
