ORAL PRESENTATIONS Second Semester
Each student in the course is expected to do an individual oral
presentation of approximately 5-10 minutes in front of the class. Choose your
own topic from one of the two options given below. You will have to do some research
(online and/or from traditional media – books, magazines, newspapers etc.), prepare
your presentation at home, and then deliver it in class. You may prepare a PowerPoint
(or similar) to project on the screen but are not required to do so.
Option 1: Identify a problem or complex/difficult issue affecting contemporary life or society (whether specific to Italy or much broader in scope). Describe why it is a problem and what its origins may be. Discuss what you personally think and feel about this problem. Does it affect you personally, or anyone that you know? Propose some potential solutions to the problem.
Examples include topics such as climate change, the immigration crisis, political problems, social and economic issues, gender inequality, sexual harassment, racism, gun violence, wars and nuclear weapons.
Option 2: Discuss an important person from history and/or from your own life. Who is this person? Provide some biographical information. And why do you consider him/her to be important? What has this person contributed to the world and/or what have you learned from this person? How can this person serve as an example to others?
