Writing Assignment -- An Informal Email

Dear students,

I realized today that I didn't post the instructions about your email writing assignment on my blog yesterday. I apologize for that. Here they are now. If you are able to write the email (on a blank sheet of paper) before our lesson tomorrow morning, that will be great. But if you are not able to write it in time for tomorrow’s lesson, you may bring it next Monday, March 11.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Write an informal email to a new English pen pal. In your email you should include most or all of the following elements/information, in whatever order you think is best:

-an appropriate beginning, including the name of the person you are writing to (invent their name);

- introduce yourself by name;

- then tell the reader some general information about yourself – where you are from, where you live now, and what you are doing in this period of your life; be sure to explain that you are a student at the University of Rome;

- explain which languages you are studying at university and why you chose to study them;

- mention that you are excited to exchange letters/emails with your pen pal, and explain the reasons why;

- speak about your experiences learning English before/until now, and how you hope to improve your English;

- mention what you would like to do in the future, after you complete your university degree;

- conclude your email with an appropriate ending.
